THINKING OF MOVING TO CHINA ?
Many companies are now considering moving their Production Units to China. Are you one of them? The big question we are often asked is how do we go about it? China offers greatly reduced production costs; on the other hand it is still for many companies rather difficult to find the right location, let alone to find out what the real complications are. However it doesn’t need to be difficult, as we have many years of experience and certainly have the right connections with the Chinese Authorities to make a move easy. There are many production units in Weihai available at very reasonable prices. And, by the way, Weihai is a very comfortable place to be. One hour by plane to the East from Beijing, right on the coast, offering everything one needs to set up a factory. This could be the time for you to consider a move.

NEWS FROM CHINA
China’s economy grew at an annual rate of 6.1 % in the first quarter of this year - its slowest pace since quarterly gross domestic product data was first published in 1992. Beijing struggled to prop up activity in the face of the global crisis. Growth fell from 10.6 % in the same quarter a year ago and 9 % for the whole of 2008. But aggressive government stimulus measures, begun in the fourth quarter last year, have started to yield some signs of recovery. The figure was indeed quite an achievement against the background of the worsening global crisis in recession in many of the developed economies that China relies on to buy its exports.
Industrial production accelerated 8.3 % in March and 5.1 % in their first quarter from a year earlier. Although there is still little evidence of new private sector investment the government’s efforts have led to a rebound in investment figures and shown signs of stimulating wider demand in the economy. As a result the economy has gained a significant momentum since February. As I have always said, China is now on the world map and will stay there and it looks as if they will contribute a great deal towards the recovery of the world economy. We need them now, more than ever before. As Mrs Thatcher said many years before:
“If you can’t beat them join them” ..... and wasn’t she right!
I shall be back with more news form the Far East in the near future. Until then it’s good-bye from me.
